Francis Smith Preston and his mother was Sarah Buchanan Campbell.  His paternal grandparents were Col William Preston and Susannah Smith; his maternal grandparents were Gen. William Campbell and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and three sisters, named William Campbell, 15 ch, Susan, Ann Sophonisba and Maria Thornton Carter.
