Thomas was born on September 16th, 1812 in Hepburn Twp, Lycoming Co, PA.  Thomas' father was James Van Camp Marshall and his mother was Lavina Wilson.  His paternal grandparents were Peter Marshall II and Rachel Overfield. He had a brother and four sisters, named James Van Camp, Elizabeth, Amelia, Sarah and Elvira.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died in Loyalsock, Lycoming, Pennsylvania.
