Nelson was born in 1850 in IN.  Nelson's father was Ambrose Riggs Marshall and his mother was Cynthia Roby.  His paternal grandparents were Jesse Franklin Marshall and Catharine. He had three brothers and nine sisters, named Singleton, Leonard, Isom Isam RIggs, Matilda Ann, Louisa, Martha, Nancy, Cynthia, Martha, Nancy, Catharine and Malinda.  He was the twelfth oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 69 on June 1st, 1919 in Terre Haute, Henderson, Illinois.
