Charles was born about 1765.  Charles' father was Gen. Andrew Lewis and her mother was Elizabeth Givens.  Her paternal grandparents were John pioneer Lewis and Margaret Lynn; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Givens and Sarah Cathey. She had five brothers and a sister, named John, Samuel, Thomas, Andrew, William and Ann.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
