Anne was born on January 1st, 1573 in Wiston, Sussex, England. Anne's father was Thomas Shirley and her mother was Anne Kempe dau of Sir Thomas Kempe of Wye by Catherine Chenye. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Kempe and Cecily Katherine Cheyney. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, Anthony, Robert, Isabel, Maria, Elizabeth (Margaret), Cecily, Cicely and Jane. She was the second youngest of the ten children.General Notes
