Joan was born in 1506 in Adeston, Devonshire, England. Joan's father was Fulk Prideaux and her mother was Katherine Poyntz. Her maternal grandparents were Humphrey Poyntz and Elizabeth Pollard. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Nicholas, Humphrey, Rev. Robert, Richard, Margaret, Alice and Elizabeth. She was the youngest of the eight children.-
