James F. was born on April 6th, 1835 in Clark Co, KY.. James F.'s father was Henry BROWNING and his mother was Maria FIELDS. His paternal grandparents were Toliver (Toliver) and Mary BROWNING. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James, William Tolliver, John Mann, Franklin, Polly, Elizabeth and Nancy Ann. He was the second youngest of the eight children.
