Thomas was born in 1515.  Thomas' father was Anthony Irby and his mother was Alice Bountayne.  His paternal grandparents are Robert Irby and Joan Thimblely; his maternal grandfather is John Bountayne. He had six brothers and five sisters, named John, Leonard, Edmund, Kenelm, Giles, Edward, Margaret, Catherine, Jane, Rose and Dorothy.  He is the oldest of the twelve children.
