Jean was born about 1558 in Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Jean's father was William Douglas and her mother was Egidia Graham. Her paternal grandfather is Archibald Douglas and her paternal grandmother was Agnes Keith; her maternal grandparents are Robert Graham and Giles Douglas.
