Elisha was born on August 24th, 1810 in Pomfret, Windham, Connecticut. Elisha's father was Elisha Grow and his mother was Lois Palmer. His maternal grandparents were Abel Palmer and Lois Palmer. He has nine brothers and seven sisters, named Stillman Thompson, Elijah, John Alonzo, Abel Palmer, William Breed, Thomas, Edward N, Edwin, Waterman Phillips, Lois, Julia, Dilla, Anne, Sarah Matilda, Olive and Rhoda Bennett.
