Edwin was born on March 8th, 1822 in Homer, Cortland, New York. Edwin's father was Elisha Grow and his mother was Lois Palmer. His maternal grandparents were Abel Palmer and Lois Palmer. He has nine brothers and seven sisters, named Stillman Thompson, Elijah, Elisha, John Alonzo, Abel Palmer, William Breed, Thomas, Edward N, Waterman Phillips, Lois, Julia, Dilla, Anne, Sarah Matilda, Olive and Rhoda Bennett.
