John Read Babcock 
John Read was born in 1778.1 John Read's father was Timothy Babcock and his mother was Thankful Read. His paternal grandparents were James Babcock and Sarah Vose; his maternal grandparents were John Reid and Lydia Caswell. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Robert G, Sarah, Anne and Louisa M. He is the third youngest of the seven children. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Timothy, Jesse, Lois, Grace and Desire.-
