John I was born in January 1639 in Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.. John I's father was Richard Seymour and his mother was Mercy Ruscoe. His paternal grandparents were Robert Seymour and Elizabeth Waller. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Richard, Zachariah, Capt. Richard, Mary, Mary, Mercy and Elizabeth.
