Martha was born on November 7th, 1669 in Freetown, Bristol, MA and her baptism took place in 1781. Martha's father was John Hathaway and her mother was Hannah Anna Burt. Her paternal grandparents were John Hathaway and Martha Shephard; her maternal grandparents were James Burt and Mrs. Anna Burt. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Jacob, Isaac, Ephraim, Thomas, Hannah, Abigail, Sarah and Experience. She is the oldest of the ten children.-
