John W. was born in 1870 in Kentucky. John W.'s father is James B. Allen Warren and his mother was Lucy Ann DeSpain. His paternal grandparents are Nathan Warren and Lydia Skaggs; his maternal grandfather is Andrew Drury DeSpain and his maternal grandmother was Nancy Skaggs. He has two brothers and four sisters, named Robert Lee, John W., Mary E., Joanna, Susan J. and Martha. He is the second oldest of the seven children.-
