Underwood and Mary Jane Warren; his maternal grandparents were William Henry Gregory and Amanda Texana Graham. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Charles Walter, Frankie, Cecil Floyd, Arthur James, Ermine, Lois, Rosa Lee, Hazel, Ruby and Aileen. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.
