Mastin was born in 1796 in Hardin Co.,Kentucky. Mastin's father was Jacob Skaggs and his mother was Mary Jane Gore. His paternal grandparents were Meshack Skaggs and Sarah Gumm. He had two brothers and a sister, named Henry Ellison, James Manon and Eleanor. He had six half-brothers and a half-sister, named William, John E., Notley Gore, William Richard, Mark Fletcher, Thomas and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 67 in April 1863 in Waynesville,Pulaski Co.,Missouri.-
