Jacob was born in 1741. Jacob's father was Meshack Skaggs and his mother was Sarah Gumm. His paternal grandparents were Richard Skaggs and Elizabeth Wells. He had five brothers named William, Richard, John Wesley, Joseph and Asberry. He died at the age of 89 in October 1830.-
