Hannah was born in 1797 in Russell Co.,Virginia. Hannah's father was Jeremiah Skaggs and her mother was Hannah Lester. Her paternal grandfather was Zachariah Skaggs and her paternal grandmother is Nancy Wilcox. She had two brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Nancy, Martha and Lydia. She is the youngest of the six children.-
