-Obituary: Joseph Orrell died Thursday morning, Dec. 2, 1937, in the hospital at Martin, where he was operated on Monday morning for appendicitis. Gangrene had set up when he was operated on. He was taken sick on Thursday in the cotton patch. On Friday he came to town to see the doctor. Dr. Moore was in Bradford, so he went home without seeing him and felt better, so did not come back until Monday morning. After an examination he was immediately rushed to the hospital, without even letting him go home. But it was too late. He leaves his wife, who was Effie Darnell, before her marriage in 1925; three brothers; Earett Orrell of Martin; Willie and Tommie Orrell of Martin; two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Harrison of Greenfield; Mrs. Florence Morris who lives north of Dresden and Mrs. Bertie Estes of Florida; one half brothers, DeWitt Hathcoat and a step-brother Jodie Hathcoat of Sharon. Funeral and burial was at Bradbury Cemetery north of Dresden. Rev. Cayce Pentecost held the service, assisted by Rev. W.R. Shelby of Martin. Mr. Orrell was a member of the Baptist Church. He lived on the Dew Brothers farm west of Sharon, and was held in high esteem by them, also other neighbors and friends. Among those attending the funeral and burial from here were: Marsh and John Dew, Mrs. Laura Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Earett Orrell and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Bradbury, Mr. and Mrs. Jodie Hathcoat, Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Hathcoat, and Mrs. Sadie Harris and son.
