William Samples' father was George Burder Keahey and his mother was Margaret Keahey. His paternal grandparents were James Keahey and Mary Jane Jackson; his maternal grandfather was George Keahey and his maternal grandmother is Sarah McFarland. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James Alfred, John Flavil, George Jackson, Samuel Newell, Martin Elijah, Mary, Sarah Jane and Margaret Ann.-
