Martin Elijah was born in 1840. Martin Elijah's father was George Burder Keahey and his mother was Margaret Keahey. His paternal grandparents were James Keahey and Mary Jane Jackson; his maternal grandfather was George Keahey and his maternal grandmother is Sarah McFarland. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James Alfred, John Flavil, George Jackson, Samuel Newell, William Samples, Mary, Sarah Jane and Margaret Ann.-
