Mary Jane was born on October 28th, 1830 in Marion County, Virginia. Mary Jane's father was Francis Riffle Shaver and her mother was Phoebe Ellen Hall. Her paternal grandparents were Peter M. Shaver and Susan Riffle. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named John S., James H., Jacob C., Hezekiah, Frances Riffle, George W., Edward C., Susanna, Sarah and Eleanor. She is the third youngest of the eleven children.General Notes
