Seneca was born on September 27th, 1804 in Buckingham, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Seneca's father was William Coates and her mother was Mary Hambleton. Her paternal grandfather was Thomas Coates and her paternal grandmother is Elizabeth King; her maternal grandparents were Stephen Hambleton and Hannah Paxson. She has four brothers and a sister, named William, Moses, John, Paxson and Eliza. She is the third oldest of the six children.-
