His paternal grandparents were David Strathbogie and Isabella de Childham; his maternal grandfather is Donald Earl of Mar and his maternal grandmother was Elen Verch Llewelyn. He had a brother and a sister, named John (jr) and Isabelle. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 36 on December 28th, 1326.-
