Samuel (Gates) was born on December 11th, 1664 in Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts. Samuel (Gates)'s father was Samuel Hall and his mother was Elizabeth White. His paternal grandparents were George Hall and Mary Williams; his maternal grandparents were Nicholas White and Susanna Humphrey.
