Esther was born on November 1st, 1884 in Springdale, Washington Co., Utah. Esther's father was Oliver Demille Gifford and her mother is Emily Ann Hepworth. Her paternal grandfather was Samuel Kendall Gifford and her paternal grandmother is Lora Ann Demille. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Jesse, Alpheus, Minerva, Ethel and Cornelia. She is the second oldest of the six children. She had six half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Oliver Demille, William Henry, John Jones, Emerett, Samuel Kendall, Thatcher, Sarah Jane, Mary Emily, Lora Ann, Rosette, Adelia, Sylvia, Margery and Florence.-
