Howard was born on March 6th, 1855 in Morristown, MN. Howard's father was Levi Coen and his mother was Delilah Brewer. His paternal grandparents are Eli Coen and Martha; his maternal grandparents are Stephen Brewer and Susanna Wright. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Levi (jr), Richard (Richmond), Walter, Alexander, John, Caroline, Julietta, Lovina and Lydia Delilah. He was the third oldest of the ten children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, and also a half-sibling of unknown gender, named Charles Gatton, Jonathan Morris, William Gatton, Sarah Elizabeth, Matilda Ann, Sarah Elizabeth and Unknown. He died at the age of 73 on July 1st, 1928 in Gross, Nebraska.
