William Knowlton 
William was born in 1642 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts. William's father was William Knowlton and his mother was Elizabeth Balch. His paternal grandparents were Capt. William Knowlton and Ann Elizabeth Smith; his maternal grandparents were John Balch and Margaret Lovett. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Nathaniel, John, Benjamin, Samuel, Joseph, Elizabeth, Margery and Mary. He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. BIOGRAPHY
) William Knowlton, son of William Knowlton (2), was born in Ipswich
(probably), in 1642. He was a tailor by trade. He was fined
for havi ng a pack of cards in his house. He was admitted a freeman in
1669. It is prob able that he removed to New York in 1678, and settled
in Norwich in 1682, in c ompany with Thomas Clark.
