Lulu was born on October 9th, 1893 in Marengo,Crawford County,Indiana. Lulu's father was John Eads Sloan and her mother was Sarah Ann (Sally) Vance. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Neal Sloan and Mary Eads; her maternal grandparents were John Lewis Vance and Jane Landers. She had five brothers named Ridgely, Clayton, Delancy, Cecil and Wayne Walter. She was the second youngest of the six children. She had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named Perry V., Lyman Edward, John William Clark, Benjamin Lee, Treat Foresta and Nevada.
