John was born in 1612 in of Modlyscwm,Kidwelly,Carmarthenshire,Wales and his baptism took place in (15-1627). John's father was Francis Mansel Sir Barone and his mother was Dorothy Stepney. His paternal grandparents were Edward Mansel Sir Knight and Jane Somerset Lady. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Rawleigh, Edward, Catherine (Jane) and Cecily.
