His paternal grandparents were Edward Mansel Sir Knight and Jane Somerset Lady; his maternal grandparents were Henry (Harry) Morgan Esquire and Elsbeth Bowen. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Francis, Walter, Richard, Jane, Jonet, Mary and Anne.
