Louisa was born on February 23rd, 1836 in of Mount Pleasan,Yankalilla,South Australia,Australia. Louisa's father was Henry Kemmis and her mother was Mary Dodd. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Kemmis Reverend and Mary Riky. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Henry, George, Arthur, William, Emily, Mary Aphrasia, Frances and Laura. She was the third oldest of the nine children.
