Laura was born in 1844 in of Mount Pleasan,Yankalilla,South Australia,Australia. Laura's father was Henry Kemmis and her mother was Mary Dodd. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Kemmis Reverend and Mary Riky. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Henry, George, Arthur, William, Emily, Louisa, Mary Aphrasia and Frances. She was the youngest of the nine children. She had five half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Arthur, William, William Henry, John Thomas, Charles Edward, Harriet Alma, Mary, Elizabeth Ruth, Elizabeth Ruth, Edith and Annie Mary.General Notes
