Henry was born on October 5th, 1721 in Fairfax Co,Virginia. Henry's father was John Hampton Jr and his mother was Margaret Wade. His paternal grandparents were Capt John Hampton and Mary Mann; his maternal grandfather was James Wade. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named John Wade, Richard, William, James, John, Thomas, Anthony, Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret and Rosamond.
