James A. Gaines 
James A. was born on December 11th, 1811 in South Carolina. James A.'s father was Stephen Gaines and his mother was Martha Patsy Waldrop. His paternal grandparents were Richard Gaines and Elizabeth Flint; his maternal grandparents were Shadrack Waldrop and Martha Patsy Couch. He had five brothers and six sisters, named Nimrod, Richard, Joseph, George, John Francis Pendleton, Elizabeth F., Rebecca, Everella, Mary Ellen, Nancy and Martha. He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 80 on April 6th, 1892 in Crawford Co.,IL.-
