William Henry McClung 
William Henry was born on October 28th, 1843. William Henry's father was Alexander McClung and his mother was Eleanor Thompson. His paternal grandparents were John McClung and Nancy Goff. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Robert Alexander, John Thomas, Edward Smith, George Washington, Samuel Floyd, Martha Jane, Nancy Ann, Elizabeth Rachel, Leah Goff and Ella Rosetta. He was in the Confederate Army. He first enlisted as a substitute in Col. Henry's regiment. Three months later he volunteered and was assigned to Capt. Burkhart's cavalry, Company I, 14th VA Reg. In Oct, 1864, he was transferred to Hounshell's Battalion as a drillmaster, in which capacity he served till the close of the war. He was several times wounded; twice severely. He was slightly wounded in an engagement in Greenbriar County, WV. He was severely wounded in the left chest at Frederick City, MD. He was wounded in the right side in front of the block house in Washington D.C. while attempting to carry his wounded brother John off the field. He was wounded in the face at the battle of Ninevah. He was captured at Ninevah, but made his escape by riding through the Federal lines, swimming the Shenandoah Rover three times, and taking refuge in the mountains. He reached his command the next evening.
He began the practice of medicine about the year 1868 and has succeeded in building up an enormous practice.
