Mary Jane was born in 1825 in Kentucky. Mary Jane's father was Joseph Zike and her mother was Sarah Goforth. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob "Zeuch" Zike and Katherine Lucinda Avey; her maternal grandfather was Thomas, Sr. Goforth. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Jordan, Joseph, George W., Martha, Margaret, Lydia, Lucy and Susan.General Notes
