Jordan was born in 1830 in Kentucky. Jordan's father was Joseph Zike and his mother was Sarah Goforth. His paternal grandparents were Jacob "Zeuch" Zike and Katherine Lucinda Avey; his maternal grandfather was Thomas, Sr. Goforth. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Joseph, George W., Martha, Mary Jane, Margaret, Lydia, Lucy and Susan.-
