James Elmer was born on October 25th, 1915 in Monroe County, Indiana. James Elmer's father was Elza Flick Shields and his mother was Mary Ann May. His paternal grandparents were William C. Shields and Elizabeth A. Deckard. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Orval E., Living, Wilma M., Charlotte Viola, Grace L., Betty M. and Freda. He died at the age of 59 in 1974 in Monroe Co., Indiana. He was buried in Clear Creek Cemetery, Clear Creek, Monroe Co., Indiana.-
