James Alexander Shields 
James Alexander was born on October 9th, 1855 in Monroe County, Indiana. James Alexander's father was David W. Shields and his mother was Elizabeth Ellen Payne. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Shields and Sarah "Sally" Masterson. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Francis M., Andrew Jackson, William Edward, David W., Sarah Jane, Urana L. "Winnie", Martha A., Rowena and Orpha. He was the third oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 73 on January 1st, 1929 in Springfield, Greene Co., Missouri. He was buried in Boyer Cemetery, Hartville, Wright Co., Missouri.-
