Beatrice was born on October 14th, 1907 in Monroe County, Indiana. Beatrice's father was Benjamin W. Shields and her mother was Bertha Hyde. Her paternal grandparents were Isaac Shields and Izella Todd. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Clarence, James E., Robert H., Benjamin "Bennie", Jennie and Helen. She was the oldest of the seven children.-
