Her paternal grandparents were Simon Peder Guthu and Hellen Bennett; her maternal grandparents were Orlando Mayne Harrington and Amanda Mahala Ray. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Lawrence Orlando, Leonard Oscar, Hal, Pearl Amanda and Dot. She was the youngest of the six children.-
