Harold James (Hal) Guthu 
Harold James, known as Hal, was born on April 28th, 1922 in Ryegate,Montana. Hal's father was Oscar Palmer Guthu and his mother was Sylvia Ruth (G.G.) Harrington. His paternal grandparents were Simon Peder Guthu and Hellen Bennett; his maternal grandparents were Orlando Mayne Harrington and Amanda Mahala Ray. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Lawrence Orlando, Leonard Oscar, Pearl Amanda, Dot and Helen Ruth. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 77 on February 27th, 2000 in California.General Notes
Relatives believe he committed suicide in his place of business in California. He was found there with a bullet in his head. He had led a very secretive life. There was a fire started, so they didn't know if it was a murder or suicide at first. His car was found several blocks from the site with a note that said,"If you find this, it's yours." He was upset about losing both of his brothers in the last few years. He was born with club feet and had a pretty tough life, but was a well known photographer in California. He had disappeared for about 20 years until the late 1980's, when he went to Oregon to see his Grandma Guthu in the rest home.

DEATH: On Sunday, February 27th,2000, a fire gutted the C.H.N. studio in Hollywood. Talent Agent Hal Guthu was found inside, dead of a gunshot wound. The bullet wound was to the head. A suicide note was located which mentioned his doctor and current health problems (inoperable spine cancer).

The discovery of a charred body after a fire that gutted the offices of a West Hollywood modeling and acting agency has triggered homicide and arson investigations.
Police said the body of a man, who has not been identified, was found in the offices of CHN International Agency in the 7400 block of Santa Monica Boulevard after a fire Sunday afternoon.
The building appeared to have burned in several places at once, indicating arson, authorities said. Sheriff's investigators, looking for the owner of the agency, 78-year-old Harold Guthu, brought in a bloodhound, which found his car several blocks away on Martel Avenue.

The death Sunday (2/27) of talent agent Hal Guthu was ruled a suicide by the coroner Tuesday afternoon. But other police sources say that Hal was murdered in a contract hit after a business deal went bad.
I hear that a safe of Hal's that kept lots of valuable information, possibly including models names and numbers, as well as photo negatives, was robbed.
