Records indicate that "John" was actually named "Jonathan" Hilliard after his mother's father. In The Deeds of Amherst County, Virginia 1800-1827, Books L-R, he is named twice, once in his parents actions and once with Angus MCCLOUT (MCCLOUD) his father-in-law, both show his name as Jonathan.
