John Alvin Varner 
John Alvin was born in 1866.1 John Alvin's father was John Nelson Varner and his mother was Mary "Libby" Elizabeth Cress. His paternal grandparents were John "Johnny" Varner Jr and Irena Emma Andrews; his maternal grandparents were William Cress and Jane P Cumming. He had four brothers named George Nelson, Sylvester Elsworth, Clarence Coltson and William Arthur. He was the oldest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Leroy Edward, Jay Dee and Ida Mae.-
