Elizabeth was born about 1755 in ,Spotsylvania, Virginia.1 Elizabeth's father was Anthony Gholson and her mother was Mary Sandridge. Her paternal grandparents were Anthony GHOLSON SR. and Jane Hawkins; her maternal grandparents were William SANDRIDGE and Ann PULLIAM PULLAM. She had eight brothers and five sisters, named Anthony, William, Frederick, John, John, Joseph, Dabney, William, Sarah, Ann, Mary, Eunice and Susannah. She was the fifth youngest of the fourteen children.-
