Her paternal grandparents were Ethelwild (Aethelwulf) and Osburh of Wessex; her maternal grandparents were Mucel Aethelred and Eadburh Of Mercia. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Edward I the Elder, Edmund of Wessex, Ethelwerd of Wessex, Elfrida of Wessex and Ethelgiva of Shaftsbury. She was the second oldest of the six children.
