Egelina de was born in 1172.1 Egelina de's father was Reginald de Courtenay and her mother was Hawise de Curci. Her paternal grandparents were Reginald de Courtenay and Hawise de Donjon; her maternal grandparents were William de Curci and Maud de Avranches. She had three brothers named Robert de, Reginald de and Henry de. She was the second oldest of the four children.General Notes

IV: 114 in th e discussion of Westcott hamlet (part of Waddesdon manor) it is noted that the Courtenays hel d Waddesdon and that Reynold de Courtenay settled Westcott lands on his daughter Egeline on h er marriage with Gilbert Basset. Gilbert and Egeline later gave these lands to Bicester Prior y (cf. VCH(Oxford) VI:21).
This would make Egeline daughter of Reynold de Courtenay (d.1194) and Hawise de Curcy (d.121 9) lady of Okehampton.
