Amy was born about 1767 in ,Martin Co, North Carolina.1 Amy's father was Thomas BEST and her mother was Mary Ann Jones. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas BEST and Sarah Jane Alexander; her maternal grandfather was Lewelling GRIMES. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Henry, William, Sarah and Mary. She was the second youngest of the six children.
